This is a new weekly blog. I will be efforting to keep it as current as possible. These three songs have caught my attention…and should probably be on your radar as well. This will also be a part of a future project I’m working on, which I will reveal later.
The Number 3 Star… Femur – Die Trying
This is the latest release from the Die Trying EP. The four-man band from Sheffield has evolved from their early poppy sound to the psych grunge band they are today. Drummer Danny Cox says that the dynamic structure of Femur is similar to Pixies. That comp will come into play later in this commentary.
The Number 2 Star… The Blameshells – Cheap Date
The Blameshells are a female-fronted punk trio from Denver. When you see them live, you get the feeling that this is the closest you’ll ever get to seeing the legendary Seattle band, The Gits. Their dynamic live shows translate perfectly in the studio, as their new eponymous EP proves. While any track from the six-song release is worthy of being featured in this segment, I’ll go with the closer, “Cheap Date,” my absolute favorite track.

The Number 1 Star… Pixies – You’re So Impatient
One of the greatest phrases ever uttered in the history of the English language is, “new music from Pixies.” The latest effort certainly didn’t disappoint. “You’re So Impatient” is a co-A-Side and a dark cover of “Que Sera Sera.” This single also is the debut of Emma Richardson, who takes over bass duties after Paz Lenchantin left the band in March.
